MANGALORE TO MYSORE VIA MADEKIRI (MERCERA) AKA COORG
VEHICLE - MARUTI ESTEEM VXi
DATED : 03.NOV.11
From the Pump house circle at the end of Mangalore city (on NH 66) take the left leading to Bangalore.
After about 36 Kms you will reach the (right) turn at Mani for Puttur and Madekeri.
The road leads via Sullia (Sulya). Total distance to Madekeri (Mercera) - 100 Kms. This stretch was in an appaling condition. Some places the road is cut in half as the remainder portion is being worked on.
At Sulya, it is the worst, with big ditches and muddy pits. To avoid the worst stretch, whilst heading for Mercera, there is a diversion (turn left) just before you reach the main town. This leads away from the main road and into the village, where despite being small are at least navigable and you will not get head on traffic.
It rejoins the main road about 3 to 4 kms further down.
From Mercera to Mysore via Suntikoopa, Kushalnagar and Priyapatna - Distance of 110 kms.

This road is excellent and is four laned at some portions. I covered this distance in two hours flat. Awesome drive with rolling hillocks, green pastures and tiny hamlets strung all along the route. There is a Cafe Coffee Day outlet at Bylakuppe (near Kushalnagar), home to the Namdroling Monastery, the largest Nyingmapa teaching center in the world.
Total distance from Mangalore to Mysore town - 246 Kms. Time taken - 8 hours.
